Residents across five South Shore communities are being asked to boil their tap water after a technical malfunction was detected at the Marchand drinking water production plant on Saturday, June 13.
The precautionary boil water advisory affects Châteauguay, Mercier, Léry, Saint-Urbain-Premier, and Sainte-Martine — all municipalities connected to Châteauguay's water distribution system.
Until the advisory is lifted, residents should use bottled water or boil tap water for at least one minute before consuming it. The recommendation applies to drinking, brushing teeth, preparing beverages, and washing raw foods. Normal bathing and showering can continue, though parents of young children are advised to limit bathwater use and ensure children don't swallow it.
Municipal crews are working to address the issue. The advisory will remain in effect until testing confirms the water supply meets all safety standards.
