Man dies after officer-involved shooting in Brooks, ASIRT investigating

Alberta RCMP say a man was killed Wednesday afternoon during an arrest attempt in the town about 190 km east of Calgary. The province's police watchdog is now reviewing the incident.

A man died Wednesday afternoon after an officer-involved shooting in Brooks, a town about 190 kilometres east of Calgary, according to Alberta RCMP.

Officers were trying to arrest a wanted man in the Greenbrook neighbourhood at around 4 p.m. when he attempted to flee. During a confrontation with police, the man produced a weapon, at which point an officer fired their gun, RCMP said. The man died of his injuries despite police efforts to save his life. No officers were injured.

Alberta's police watchdog, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), is investigating the incident. The RCMP is also conducting an internal review.
