Man killed by police after armed domestic violence incident in Edmonton home

A 36-year-old man was killed after Edmonton police discharged firearms during a domestic violence incident Sunday morning in the area of Donsdale Drive and 45th Avenue.
Eddmonton police responded after a man with a firearm entered a residence and shot a woman and an infant. When three officers arrived and opened the front door, they found the armed suspect, who did not comply with verbal directions. The officers discharged their firearms.
The man died at the scene. The Edmonton Police Service's tactical emergency medical support team attempted life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful.
The woman suffered a gunshot wound and the infant presented with other physical injuries. Both were transported to hospital; their injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. No police officers were injured.
Police say the suspect and injured parties were known to each other and the incident is believed to be domestic violence-related. Officers arrived and were met by witnesses and the injured parties before establishing containment of the residence.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate. The Police Review Commission has been notified. ASIRT investigates matters involving police that result in serious injury or death to determine whether there was officer misconduct.
