Alberta RCMP shoot suspects in two separate domestic incidents within 24 hours

Alberta RCMP officers fired on armed suspects in two separate domestic situations this week — one in Cold Lake on Tuesday and another in Fox Creek that stretched into Wednesday morning.
In Cold Lake, officers responded to a domestic call involving a weapon at 9:47 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5. Police say an officer fired during an altercation with an armed suspect, striking them. The suspect was taken to hospital in stable condition.
Late that same evening, Fox Creek RCMP were called to a residence around 10:15 p.m. for another domestic situation with a weapon. Officers contained the area while crisis negotiators attempted to get the male suspect to surrender. After a seven-hour standoff, a confrontation occurred at 5:18 a.m. on Wednesday, and an officer fired. The suspect was transported to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance.
No officers were injured in either incident. Both cases have been handed to the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team for independent investigation. The Police Review Commission CEO was notified immediately.
"It's alarming … we've had two member-involved shootings within two days now," said Alberta RCMP Const. Gina Slaney. "The last thing that we want to do is have to use that type of force against somebody. I feel for the suspects, but I also feel for our officers who were put in that situation."
Cold Lake is about 295 km northeast of Edmonton; Fox Creek is roughly 262 km northwest.
