Canada's men's national soccer team was eliminated from the FIFA World Cup on Saturday, July 4 after losing 3–0 to Morocco in the Round of 16.

The loss ended Canada's historic run. The team had made it further than any men's national team in the nation's World Cup history, reaching the knockout stage for the first time. Despite the defeat, captain Alistair Johnston expressed pride in how the team competed.

"They saw a Canadian team that was not afraid of anyone, that played how I think we always want all of our Canadian teams to play," Johnston said after the match. "We went toe to toe with any challenge that was thrown at us, and we played with that Canadian honesty and just resilience."

Midfielder Stephen Eustáquio said he was disappointed with the result but acknowledged the quality of Morocco, the sixth FIFA-ranked team. "Especially after that first half, I think we were the better team," Eustáquio said. "But at the same time, they have amazing players, and in the details, I think they're more used to these stages than us."

Christian women's soccer legend Christine Sinclair, who has never won a World Cup despite an illustrious career, penned a message to the team afterward. "One result will never define this team," Sinclair wrote. "Their impact on our game, on our country, and on the next generation will last far longer than today's score."
