Canada's women's soccer team needs one win to qualify for 2027 World Cup in Brazil

Canada's women's soccer team won't have to wait long for another World Cup chance. The 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup will be held in Brazil next June and July, and Canada is expected to contend — but first must secure a spot.

Canada has already qualified for the quarter-final of the Concacaf Women's Championship, the confederation's regional tournament set to begin in November. The four semi-finalists automatically advance to the World Cup. All the Canadian women need to do is win a single game: beat Panama on November 28 in Texas to clinch their World Cup berth.

This will be Canada's first Women's World Cup since Christine Sinclair retired in 2023. The team's track record is strong internationally — they won Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020 and bronze at Rio 2016 and London 2012 — but they've never won a World Cup medal. Their best finish was fourth place in 2003. Most recently, Canada finished 23rd at the 2023 tournament after failing to advance past the group stage, their worst result ever.

Canada currently ranks ninth in the FIFA women's world rankings. The Canadian men won't get their next World Cup chance until 2030.
