Dan Levy used his Instagram platform to condemn a misogynistic monologue delivered by comedian Shane Gillis during Saturday Night Live's October 10 episode.

Gillis, who has faced past controversies over racist and homophobic remarks, opened his hosting segment by mocking women for wearing shorts to the gym. "I haven't been to the gym in so long, I didn't know women just dress like whores now," Gillis said, adding "Look, I'm sorry, there's no other way to describe it."

Levy, the Emmy-winning Schitt's Creek star, posted a video to his nearly six million Instagram followers making clear he found nothing funny in the bit. "I'm speechless that something like that can exist on live national television," Levy said. "Women wearing short shorts to the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores misogynists. There's a difference there."

Levy went further, emphasizing that men need to do more to defend women and that gender-based violence is not just a women's issue—it's "an everybody issue." His video quickly went viral, joining broader conversations about sexual assault and accountability that intensified following student protests at Cornell University over a high-profile case.

Levy has built a reputation for speaking out on issues that matter to him. In August 2020, as Canada grappled with the residential school reckoning, he encouraged fans to enroll in a free Indigenous history course from the University of Alberta. "If 2020 has taught us anything, it's that we need to actively re-learn history. History that wasn't taught to us in school," he said at the time. He has also been vocal about LGBTQ+ rights, calling out homophobic comments from TV critics and publicly criticizing Comedy Central India for censoring a same-sex kiss in Schitt's Creek while leaving heterosexual kisses uncut.
