Two women from the Greater Toronto Area have died in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 401 near Gananoque early Monday morning, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.
Emergency crews responded to the collision in the westbound lanes shortly after 12:30 a.m. The OPP's initial investigation indicates a transport truck was stopped on the right shoulder with safety cones in place when a passenger vehicle struck it. The women who died—a 47-year-old and a 73-year-old—were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the passenger vehicle reported no serious injuries but was taken to hospital for assessment. The transport truck driver sustained no injuries.
