A 47-year-old woman and her 11-year-old son from Kamloops died in a collision involving a Mercedes SUV and Honda Civic Friday afternoon.

Two people from Kamloops died in a car crash near Chase on Highway 1 Friday afternoon. A 47-year-old woman and her 11-year-old son were pronounced dead at the scene after their Honda Civic collided with a Mercedes SUV at the 5300 block of Highway 1, just west of Chase, around 3 p.m. on October 1.

BC Emergency Health Services arrived first and attempted life-saving efforts on both Honda Civic occupants before Chase RCMP arrived. The driver of the Mercedes SUV was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Cpl. Brett Urano, RCMP spokesperson, said investigators are working to determine exactly what occurred and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or captured relevant dash camera footage to come forward. "The loss of life in any incident is tragic, and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those affected during this incredibly difficult time," Urano said.
