Kalie McCrystal, a Canadian skyrunner and mountaineer from Squamish, B.C., has been missing since Tuesday while attempting to set a new speed record for climbing and descending Italy's Matterhorn, Athletics Canada confirmed.
McCrystal, described as an experienced mountain runner with many years of experience in technical and high-altitude environments, was climbing the horn-shaped peak on the Alps along the Switzerland-Italy border. The Matterhorn rises roughly 4,481 metres and overlooks Zermatt, a town in Switzerland. McCrystal has previously climbed the mountain successfully.
