The Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) says the NM Joseph-Savard had an electrical failure affecting its propulsion on its 9 a.m. crossing from L'Isle-aux-Coudres to Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive. The vessel also struck the dock on approach, damaging its hull.
A regulatory authority inspected the vessel, and the inspection finished late in the day. The STQ must make repairs before the Joseph-Savard can return to service.
The NM Radisson will leave Quebec early Monday morning and arrive at L'Isle-aux-Coudres late in the morning to take over service. The STQ says the Radisson will be deployed "in the coming days" and gives no end date. The Québec-Lévis crossing will run with a single vessel during that time. The NM Alphonse-Desjardins is in mandatory dry dock and cannot provide backup, and the NM Lomer Gouin cannot be reinforced by it.
The STQ says the aim of the deployment is to keep L'Isle-aux-Coudres connected.
