A 70-year-old man from Aylesford, Nova Scotia, died in a boating accident on Aylesford Lake on Canada Day, while search efforts continue for a second passenger thrown from the vessel.

First responders, including the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, responded to the incident around 4:45 p.m. on June 26. Five men from Kings County were in the boat when surface conditions changed, ejecting two passengers into the water.

The 70-year-old was found in the water by an uninvolved boater and was pronounced dead at the scene. The three other men on the boat were uninjured.

Search efforts remain active to locate the second missing passenger, a 58-year-old man also from Aylesford. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, Valley Ground Search and Rescue, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, and the Nova Scotia RCMP Underwater Recovery Team are engaged in the search. Police say there will be a significant presence of officers and first responders around the lake as the investigation continues.
