Charles Milliard, leader of the Quebec Liberal Party and official opposition, announced the composition of opposition officers for the National Assembly on Sunday.

André Fortin, MNA for Pontiac, was appointed House Leader. Fortin previously served as parliamentary leader of the Quebec Liberals before Milliard became party leader in February.

Madwa-Nika Cadet was appointed chief whip, Filomena Rotiroti as caucus chair, and Julie White as deputy leader.

The Quebec Liberals retained official opposition status after the October 5 provincial election, when the party's seat count grew from 18 to 40 MNAs — a significant gain in an election that saw the Parti Québécois form government and the Coalition avenir Québec lose all its seats.

A judicial recount is underway in the Vachon riding, where Liberal candidate Affine Lwalalika won by a margin of ten votes over Parti Québécois candidate Stephan Fogaing.

Liberal MNAs were sworn in Monday afternoon at the National Assembly. The Parti Québécois had been sworn in before Monday, Québec solidaire elected officials on Tuesday, and Conservative MPs are set for Thursday. The Parti Québécois Cabinet composition was announced Wednesday.
