Anyone in Canada sickened by recalled Silk and Great Value plant-based beverages has until October 16, 11:59 p.m. PST to file a claim in a $7.5 million class-action settlement.

The outbreak occurred between August 2023 and mid-July 2024, killing 3 people and sickening 20, with 15 hospitalizations. The contamination was caused by Listeria monocytogenes in products manufactured by Joriki Inc. and distributed by Danone Canada and Walmart Canada. Both companies deny wrongdoing; the settlement was approved by Quebec Superior Court.

Eligible claimants include anyone who purchased or consumed the recalled beverages, as well as family members and successors of those who fell ill or died. Compensation ranges from $400 for symptoms lasting up to 48 hours to up to $300,000 for death. Hospitalization claims range from $10,000 to $30,000 depending on severity and duration; non-hospitalized illnesses lasting over one week receive $7,000.

Claims are filed online through Concilia Services Inc., the settlement administrator. The deadline is firm and applies across Canada. The settlement does not specify how the $7.5 million pool is allocated across compensation tiers or how many eligible claimants are expected.
