Two tornadoes touched down near Kingston on June 30, carving a destructive path across eastern Ontario as a cold front collided with rising temperatures, according to the Northern Tornadoes Project, a research initiative at the University of Western Ontario.

The first tornado formed near Verona and tracked southeast for 18 kilometres through the Hartington and Harrowsmith areas, with a maximum path width of around half a kilometre. Researchers rated it an EF1 with wind speeds around 150 km/h, damaging trees and farms. Pieces of two barns with destroyed roofs were flung into neighbouring fields — the worst damage documented.

A second, weaker tornado struck Kingston at EF0 rating, creating a long path of tree damage from Silver Corners to Canadian Forces Base Kingston with estimated wind speeds of about 115 km/h. No injuries were reported from either tornado.
