Scarborough's Chxrry wraps North American tour leg in hometown with sold-out Adelaide Hall show
The R&B and pop artist performed her first-ever headlining tour's second Toronto stop Saturday, playing tracks from her latest album U, Me & My Ego to a packed crowd.

R&B and pop artist Chxrry wrapped the North American leg of her first-ever headlining tour with a sold-out show at Adelaide Hall on September 21. It was her second Toronto stop.
Chxrry, who is originally from Scarborough, performed tracks from her latest album U, Me & My Ego, including "Bible," "Main Character," "Bottles & Lights," and "Hall of Fame." Fans chanted along to nearly every song, and she said: "It was fun. It was so loud. I didn't know they could get that loud. I don't think I've ever seen them that crazy."
Performing in her hometown carries special meaning for the artist. "We got the baddest biches, for sure. It's my favourite thing. And all my friends and family are here," she said about what she loves most about Toronto.
U, Me & My Ego was about breaking free from expectations placed on her as an artist. "I just wanted to lay it all out on the table. Being an artist, you hear a lot of assumptions about yourself, and people could put you in a box. And so for me, I was like, 'Oh no, honey, I gotta get out of this box.'," she said. The album allowed her to experiment with different sounds and show different sides of herself.
Chxrry has previously performed as an opener, and her second tour was a stadium tour. "My second tour was a stadium tour, so I went from small to huge to medium. I've seen it all," she said. "I think nothing compares to your own fans in one room screaming your lyrics. I'm just lucky to be here and have the best fans ever."
The stripped-down production of The Ego Tour has sparked conversation online, but Chxrry says the intimacy is intentional. "For the record, it's not minimalistic. Using a veil and mirrors is actually extremely iconic. This isn't a stadium. There's not going to be screens and flashing lights and all these crazy things. It's meant to be intimate."
As a member of the XO label alongside fellow Toronto artist The Weeknd, Chxrry says everyone within the label has space to carve out their own lane. She is now preparing for the European leg of her tour.
