Chapman's pecan butter tart ice cream wins international best ice cream award

Chapman's has won the Best Ice Cream award for its pecan butter tart flavour at the International Ice Cream Conference in Argentina, the Markdale company announced in a Facebook post.
The company makes the product at its plant in Markdale, in southwestern Ontario, using 100 per cent Canadian dairy for its ice cream. This summer, Chapman's said it will keep moving away from American suppliers, a shift it began when the U.S.-Canada trade war started in 2025. It has pledged to replace more than 70 per cent of its American ingredients and components with Canadian or non-U.S. sources by mid-2027, including a new sugar cone supplier, Original Foods Limited. It has also frozen ice cream prices until March 2028.
This is not the first award for Chapman's. Last year it won first place for Most Innovative Ice Cream with its sweetgrass flavour, created with Indigenous chef Zach Keeshig. In 2024 its Super Premium Plus Salty Caramel Crunch won the Best Caramel Ice Cream award from the International Ice Cream Consortium, and in 2022 its Premium The Only Chocolate won the Best Chocolate Ice Cream category.
Chapman's started in 1973, when David and Penny Chapman began making ice cream in Markdale. The company says it is now the largest independent ice cream manufacturer in Canada, with more than 280 frozen products, including premium ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, water ice and novelties.
