Tangssant Viennoiserie has been crowned Toronto's best croissant bakery after winning the Grand Prix at Saturday's Best Croissant and Best Baguette competition.
The competition, brought to the city by French Morning, a U.S.-based French news publication, took place October 4 at Ricarda's and drew 500 taste testers who sampled offerings from participating cafés across the Greater Toronto Area before voting for their favourite.
Tangssant stood out among 12 finalists. The bakery, which serves coffee, pastries, and of course croissants, won both the public's vote and the judges' blind taste test. A panel of food critics and chefs evaluated each entry before selecting the winners.
The competition was two-part: the public voting phase determined the Public's Prize, while the judges' blind tasting crowned the overall best croissants in Toronto. Tangssant won the Grand Prix, the competition's highest honour.
