Tim Hortons is taking over the space where Starbucks closed at 15 Solidarity Way in Liberty Village, disappointing residents who had hoped for a smaller, local business.

The Starbucks opened in June 2022 and closed in September 2025, operating for just over three years. Tim Hortons branding appeared at the location this week with signage reading "opening soon." The closure is part of Starbucks' broader pullback — the company plans to close 250 locations across Canada and the U.S. by the end of fiscal 2026. Nearly 50 Toronto locations have closed since 2021, according to 6ixRetail.

Liberty Village residents expressed concerns in local Facebook groups about another major coffee chain moving in. The neighborhood already has multiple large coffee retailers: a Starbucks at 25 Ordnance St. inside Altea Active, a Tim Hortons at 171 East Liberty St. in the Liberty Market Building, another Starbucks at 100 Lynn Williams St. inside Metro, and a Starbucks at 85 Hanna Ave. Additional plans are in the works to replace another former Starbucks at 1005 King St. W. with Tim Hortons.

Some residents had hoped a small, independent business would claim the 15 Solidarity Way storefront, citing sky-high rent as a barrier for independent operators. The location draws heavy foot and vehicle traffic during events at the nearby RBC Amphitheatre, BMO Field, during the CNE, and during the Air Show, making it desirable despite the cost. Tim Hortons has not provided an opening timeline or details on the location's plans.
