OEB Breakfast Co.'s Liberty Village location has been forced to close after failing a recent health inspection with nine infractions.
The popular Calgary-based breakfast chain arrived in Liberty Village in 2022, known for its unique suite of eggs Benedicts, breakfast poutines, and mimosa flights. The spot made a splash on opening and expanded with another downtown location on Toronto Street. But the Toronto fleet has now contracted.
The inspection report details two "crucial" infractions: "failure to protect food from contamination or adulteration" and "food premise maintained in manner permitting health hazard," as well as three "significant" and four "minor" infractions. Among the lesser violations were citations including failure to protect against the harbouring and breeding of pests and failure to remove waste when necessary to maintain sanitary condition.
According to DineSafe, a restaurant receives an Order to Close when one or more violations that cannot be immediately corrected are observed upon inspection. When a restaurant is closed due to health infractions, it must remain closed until all infractions have been corrected, inspected, and issued a Pass Notice to reopen.
OEB is located at 125 E. Liberty Street. The closure comes as the FIFA World Cup forges ahead at Toronto Stadium, otherwise a busy time for Liberty Village restaurants.
