Mott 32, located at the Shangri-La Hotel Toronto, has been named the best Chinese restaurant in Canada for 2026 by the Chinese Restaurant Awards Elite 30.
The award recognizes 30 top Chinese and Taiwanese restaurants across the country, voted on by a 21-member judging panel. "Taste comes first, followed by the overall dining experience," the Chinese Restaurant Awards states. "While opulent interiors and next-level staff certainly help, it really all comes down to the food."
Mott 32 was founded in Hong Kong and now operates globally. The Toronto location serves refined Cantonese cuisine—Peking duck, har gow made with local lobster, sweet and sour pork—in a sleek dining room. The restaurant beat out entries across Canada to claim the top spot.
Toronto placed eight restaurants on the Elite 30: Mott 32, Michelin-starred aKin, Lai Wah Heen, MIMI Chinese, Nian Yi Kuai Zi, Sunnys Chinese, R&D, and Miss Qu Barbecue & Restaurant. Just beyond the city limits, Richmond Hill earned three placements—Flavourful House (which ranked second nationally), Jumbo Lobster Restaurant, and Loon Fong Hot Pot. Belle Isle in Toronto and Jumbo Lobster in Richmond Hill also won special dish awards for the Claypot à l'Orange and Lobster Mountain, respectively.
The results were announced Wednesday, September 23, following a long list of 50 finalists announced earlier in September, which included 18 Ontario restaurants.
