Penelope Focacceria, the Woodbridge bakery and sandwich shop that's become a household name in the GTA, is opening a standalone Penelope Bakehouse in Scarborough very soon.

Founded by Vince Stalteri and named after his eight-year-old sourdough starter, Penelope, the bakery operates as the daytime counterpart to Penelope Social restaurant in Woodbridge. Since its 2024 opening, Penelope Focacceria has built a devoted following — 13,000 Instagram followers attest to the buzz around its focaccia sandwiches, sourdough offerings, and pastries.

The Scarborough location at 71 Howden Road will offer the same menu: sourdough, pizza, pastries, coffee, and sandwiches. Some have described Penelope's focaccia sandwiches as among Canada's best. In under two years, Stalteri's concept has grown from a morning bakery operating out of a restaurant to a regional destination.

The standalone bakehouse will give Scarborough residents access to what has become a pilgrimage spot for bread lovers in Woodbridge. No official opening date has been announced, but the team confirmed the launch is coming "very soon."
