If you're heading to a FIFA World Cup game at Toronto Stadium this week, skip the concession stand. Chicken tenders and fries at the stadium cost $25.25, but you can eat better and cheaper nearby.
Burger Drops (116 Atlantic Ave., Liberty Village) serves smashburgers a quick 10-minute walk from the stadium. A single patty Original Burger costs $9.50 and curly fries are $6.50. During the World Cup, they're also running a trailer just seven minutes away that serves burgers, chili cheese dogs and curly fries. Open until 11 p.m. on game nights.
Arvo Coffee (80 Atlantic Ave., also 10 minutes away) has toasts and handhelds — Avocado, Smoked Salmon, Almond Delight toast options, plus a Brekkie Roll, Braised Breakfast Sando, and The Sammie — all under $15. Open Tuesday to Saturday until 6 p.m., Monday and Sunday until 5 p.m.
Ghost Taco (151 East Liberty St., Liberty Market Building) offers three tacos or a burrito bowl for $14.99, or birria fries, guacamole and chips, or Spanish rice for under $10. It's a 10-minute walk from the stadium. Open Monday to Thursday until 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m., and Sunday until 8 p.m.
Kibo Sushi House (171 E Liberty St., also in the Liberty Market Building) has been feeding Toronto since 2012. Most sushi rolls come in at under $10, and sushi and rice combos run around $20 with a mix of rolls, gyoza and tempura. Open until 10 p.m. every day.
Pho Asia 21 (1208 King St. W.) is slightly further at a 14-minute walk, but it's hidden on King Street West across from the Toronto Carpet Factory and worth the trip. Most items cost under $20, with spring rolls and banh mis around $10.
