The City of Toronto is offering free FIFA Fan Festival tickets to residents of Liberty Village and Fort York as a consolation for those who missed out when earlier ticket batches sold out in hours.
The Bentway, which is hosting portions of the FIFA Fan Festival at 250 Fort York Boulevard, announced the giveaway on Instagram. A total of 1,100 tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis on Wednesday, June 24 at 3 p.m.
The catch: only residents of Liberty Village or Fort York are eligible. "These free tickets are allocated specifically to residents in Liberty Village and Fort York in recognition of the impacts of the FIFA World Cup and related initiatives, such as increased activity, road restrictions, and event operations," a City of Toronto representative said. The move is part of an initiative to "support equitable community access to FIFA Fan Festival."
Interested residents must follow The Bentway's official Instagram account and provide proof of residency on-site. A maximum of two tickets will be allotted per household. Tickets will be assigned at random, and attendees will not be able to choose which Fan Fest day they attend. Available dates are July 2, July 4, July 5, July 11, and July 14.
Head to The Bentway at 55 Fort York Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon if you live nearby. Although the FIFA Fan Festival started with weather-related cancellations, it has become a major hub for soccer fans immersing themselves in the World Cup fever taking over Toronto.
