A 22-year-old man has been charged with extortion and conspiracy to commit murder following two violent incidents in Brampton tied to an organized crime group known as For Brothers, Peel police said Thursday.

The first incident occurred on April 21 when a Brampton business was targeted in a shooting around 2:50 a.m. Investigators found 14 shell casings at the scene. The accused fled in a silver Honda Civic.

On May 26, the same man allegedly pointed a firearm at a man leaving his home around 8 p.m. The weapon malfunctioned and the man escaped without injury. The accused was seen fleeing in a grey Acura Integra.

On June 23, Edmonton police arrested the 22-year-old during a traffic stop, where they found drugs and a loaded illegal firearm. He was initially charged with firearms and drug offences. Three days later, he was returned to Ontario and charged with the additional extortion and murder-related charges. He has been denied bail and remains in custody.
