The Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham is back on track August 16, after organizers cancelled all Friday track activity due to delays in completing safety certification for the new 12-turn street circuit.

The decision to postpone Friday's sessions came down to prioritizing driver safety, organizers said. The new temporary 3.52-kilometre circuit, built for the first time this week around downtown Markham, had not yet received its required safety certification. Free Fan Friday went ahead, but spectators who showed up hoping to see cars on the track were disappointed.

Friday's practice sessions were rescheduled for Saturday, creating a compressed schedule. The NTT IndyCar Series was slated to practice Saturday morning before qualifying that afternoon. The first race, USF2000 Race 1, remained scheduled for 8:50 a.m. Saturday.

This is the inaugural year Markham is hosting Canada's only IndyCar race after the event moved from Toronto's Exhibition Place, where it had been held since 1986. The temporary circuit runs between Kennedy Road, Enterprise Boulevard, and the Unionville GO tracks. The Indy is scheduled to continue through August 17.

Fans expressed frustration on social media about Friday's cancellation. "There is no sight of ANY Indy cars, couldn't access the paddock or pit area, no sign of any drivers present," one Reddit user wrote. "What an embarrassing start to Markham Indy."
