One dead, three hurt in North York apartment fire

One person is dead after a fire swept through a North York apartment early Sunday morning, with three others taken to hospital including a firefighter.
Emergency crews responded around 1:58 a.m. to a residential building near Victoria Park Avenue and Eglinton Avenue E. on reports of heavy smoke and flames coming from a unit. Toronto Fire upgraded the incident to a 2-alarm fire and extinguished the blaze quickly.
Firefighters found one person inside the unit who was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner. Toronto Fire said there was no indication anyone else lived in that unit.
Two residents from other units and one firefighter were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening or minor injuries. Investigators and the Office of the Fire Marshal have been called in to determine the cause.
