Scarborough's Malvern Park has officially opened revitalized sports courts following an $800,000 city investment that adds modern recreation amenities to the priority neighbourhood.
The revitalization includes three upgraded tennis courts with new playing surfaces and court colour coatings, four new dedicated pickleball courts, two refreshed netball courts, and a new volleyball court completed by mid-August. The project addressed critical state-of-good-repair needs at the existing facilities and was prioritized through the City's budget process.
Three of the tennis courts received support through Tennis Canada's National Bank Play Your Court Program, which provided a $100,000 grant to help renew the courts. The improvements provide residents with modern, high-quality recreational amenities that support active living in the area.
All outdoor sports courts at Malvern Park are open daily and free to the public for drop-in use on a first-come, first-served basis. More information is available on the City's webpage.
The investment reflects the City's broader focus on recreation access in priority neighbourhoods. Scarborough has seen growing demand for pickleball courts across the city in recent years, with the city opening multiple facilities to accommodate the sport's surge in popularity.
