The Taste of Little Jamaica festival, scheduled for July 18 on Eglinton Avenue West between Oakwood and Glenholme avenues, has been cancelled after months of planning and permitting challenges.

Organizers announced the decision Monday after "careful consideration," saying they were unable to secure all required approvals from the City of Toronto. "While every effort was made to move the event forward, we were ultimately unable to secure all of the approvals required to proceed this year," the social media post said. Organizers did not specify which permits remained outstanding.

The cancellation marks the second major setback for Little Jamaica's event calendar in recent years. The Little Jamaica Festival hosted by the local business improvement area was scrapped in 2025 just days before it was set to take place due to funding constraints and permit issues.

City staff said they will reconvene with organizers and the Little Jamaica BIA in September to plan for 2027. The city encouraged residents to attend alternative events, including a new Afro-Caribbean Farmers' Market outside Fairbank station on Sundays and night markets scheduled for July 25, August 29, and September 26.

Carole Rose, a decades-long owner of Rap's on Eglinton, said the cancellation underscores ongoing challenges in the neighbourhood. "Rap's as a whole is overlooked when it comes to things like festivals or whatever is going on the Eglinton strip," she said.
