Carney to detail Ottawa's antisemitism action plan
Prime Minister Mark Carney will outline government strategy to combat rising hate in Canada, speaking in Toronto Monday.
Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to outline Ottawa's plan to combat antisemitism and hate in Canada, with remarks scheduled for Toronto on Monday.
The announcement comes less than a month after Toronto police responded to a shooting incident targeting three visibly Jewish community members with an imitation firearm.
Jewish advocacy group B'nai Brith reports that antisemitic incidents topped 6,800 in 2025 — the highest count since 1982. The spike follows the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent Gaza conflict, which has fuelled hatred and violence against Jewish Canadians.
Noah Shack with the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs said the government must strengthen community security and address the root drivers of this crisis, including radicalization and terrorist entities operating in Canada.
"The Prime Minister has an opportunity to set the tone from the highest office to make clear that nothing can justify the hatred, intimidation, and violence Jewish Canadians are experiencing," Shack said.
