During their tenure, the couple became known for lavish entertaining: Langston's obituary notes they hosted gatherings 57 times in a single year, hosting Christmas parties, Christmas Eve celebrations, music evenings, and drinks. Among their notable guests was Carol Burnett, the legendary American entertainer, who attended dinner at the home.

The house is a six-bedroom, approximately 3,592 square feet of total interior space, sitting on a lot of 50 by 125 feet. The structure carries original architectural details: hardwood floors, solid woodwork, solid interior doors, a staircase, and stained-glass windows flanking a living room fireplace. When Langston and Scott purchased the home in 1970, stained-glass windows had been covered by bookcases—the couple discovered them while stripping and refinishing the original woodwork.
