Ontario Premier Doug Ford's approval rating has plummeted to 21 per cent, marking his lowest level of support since his government was first elected in 2018, according to a new Angus Reid Institute poll.

The drop is significant. Ford was at 48 per cent approval after his third consecutive majority government win in February 2025. In just three months, his support has fallen 27 points. Shachi Kurl, president of the Angus Reid Institute, told CityNews the decline reflects a pattern: "When he's up, he's up. When he's down, he's down."

Historically, Ford reached a high of 69 per cent approval in May 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, his ratings have been volatile.

The latest poll shows 21 per cent combined strong or moderate approval, while 45 per cent of those surveyed strongly disapprove of the Premier's performance. Kurl attributed the decline to multiple factors: a private jet purchase and sale that drew public criticism, and broader economic struggles. "You've got an Ontario economy that is struggling deeply," he said.

Ontario NDP MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam pointed to a cascade of controversies and economic pressures: "It's been scandal after scandal and he's been combative in some ways. People are just not buying it anymore." She cited high unemployment and cost-of-living concerns that residents are experiencing directly.

Ford has historically dismissed polls that don't support his narrative, often stating that "people don't care" about the controversies surrounding him. The Angus Reid Institute is a non-partisan organization focusing on public opinion research.
