Eight of Toronto's 55 outdoor pools will stay open until 11:45 p.m. this week as a brutal heat wave pushes temperatures and humidity to dangerous levels.

Temperatures are forecast to reach the mid-30s, with the humidex making it feel like the low to mid-40s, especially Wednesday and Thursday. Environment Canada has issued an orange heat warning for Toronto and the GTA.

The pools with extended hours are: Alex Duff (779 Crawford St.), Giovanni Caboto (1367 St. Clair Ave. W.), Heron Park (292 Manse Rd.), McGregor Park (2231 Lawrence Ave. E.), Monarch Park (115 Felstead Ave.), North Toronto Memorial (200 Eglinton Ave.), Smithfield Park (175 Mount Olive Dr.), and Sunnyside Gus Ryder (1755 Lake Shore Blvd. W.).

All 55 outdoor pools are open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. normally. The city is also reminding residents that 84 wading pools and 10 supervised swimming beaches are available, plus more than 500 cooling centres throughout the city.
