Toronto is closing all outdoor and wading pools on Thursday, July 16, as wildfire smoke from northwestern Ontario blankets the city with hazardous air quality.

The City made the decision Wednesday evening in consultation with Toronto's Medical Officer of Health. Environment and Climate Change Canada issued an Orange Air Quality Warning, with Toronto ranking among the worst major cities in the world for air quality on Wednesday.

All indoor recreation facilities will remain open Thursday. However, many City-hosted CampTO programs have been paused, and other outdoor events are expected to be cancelled due to the air quality.

According to ECCC's outlook, conditions are expected to improve Friday morning as wind direction shifts. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors and reschedule outdoor activities where possible.
