Construction crews are once again digging up infrastructure along the Line 6 Finch West LRT corridor, nearly nine months after the line opened to passengers on Dec. 7, 2025.
Metrolinx said that "final completion activities to surrounding infrastructure is currently underway in several areas along Line 6. This is work that could not have been accomplished in the winter months." The agency did not provide an interview.
At the southeast corner of Driftwood Avenue and Finch Avenue West, crews are ripping out large sidewalk segments and piling rubble on the nearby bike lane. The same location had pylons and stacked fencing sitting there in 2025, after the line had already opened. North York resident Alex Thomas said the conditions feel unsafe. "It's a bit tiring and unsafe," Thomas said, pointing to malfunctioning crosswalk buttons at the location and at Tobermory Drive. "I don't know what to make of it."
Outside Pearldale station, construction has closed multiple sidewalk segments. These are areas that were rebuilt specifically for the LRT line in recent years. Elsewhere along the corridor, newly formed concrete sits in scattered spots, and bike and vehicle lanes are blocked off with cones sometimes without visible purpose. Near Sentinel Road and Finch Avenue West, a crew was observed watering a dried-up grass segment.
As HighOnCity reported in June, street work left unfinished along the line, with rubble and cones blocking a fire hydrant. The Finch West LRT project began in 2018 under the previous Liberal government, built by Mosaic Transit Group. Metrolinx staff have said the system was expected to cost $2.5 billion, including 30 years of maintenance. The provincial agency has not disclosed a timeline for completion of the remaining infrastructure work.
When will Metrolinx complete the infrastructure work along the corridor?
What is the current baseline cost figure, and has the project gone over budget?
