Halton Police Seize 24 Handguns in Largest Firearms Bust
A six-month investigation dismantled a drug and gun trafficking network operating across the GTA, resulting in the force's biggest firearm seizure on record.
Halton police have taken down a major drug-trafficking and firearms network spanning multiple GTA regions in what investigators are calling the largest firearm seizure in the force's history.
The six-month investigation, dubbed Project Cyprus, targeted a coordinated criminal operation moving U.S.-sourced handguns and large quantities of cocaine and opioids through Halton, Toronto, York, and Durham regions. Detectives executed nine search warrants at homes and vehicles in Vaughan, ultimately seizing two dozen handguns and significant drug quantities.
Investigators obtained 75 judicial authorizations during the probe, a sign of the complexity and scale of the network. The operation is part of a broader push by law enforcement to disrupt the cross-border flow of firearms fueling street violence across the GTA.
Gun trafficking remains a critical challenge for police across the region, with most illegal firearms in Canada originating south of the border. Major seizures like this one send a signal that organized networks are being targeted, though authorities say the work is far from finished.
Details on arrests and charges have not yet been fully disclosed, but the bust represents a significant disruption to organized crime operations in the Greater Toronto Area.
