Francique suffered life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized for two days before his death. An illegal firearm was allegedly recovered at the scene. The Special Investigations Unit cleared the officers of wrongdoing about one year after his death.
Francique's family has filed a lawsuit alleging negligence by police, paramedics, and the police watchdog. A complaint was also filed to the Office of the Independent Police Review Director.
The inquest will hear from approximately nine witnesses. As HighOnCity reported in September, another inquest into the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet, who fell from a window in May 2020, began on October 13, 2026.
