Luke Kirby Joins Law & Order Toronto for Season 4

The hit local procedural is shuffling its lead detectives, with Aden Young exiting and Kirby stepping into the Criminal Intent unit.

After three seasons of solving Toronto crimes, Aden Young is stepping away from Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, and Luke Kirby is stepping in to take the co-lead role.

Young's character, Detective Sergeant Henry Graff, has been "relieved of duty," and the show's production company says his contract simply ran its course. Young enjoyed the run but was ready to move on—a common story in television, especially with procedurals that demand years of grueling schedules and repetitive story beats.

Kirby, a seasoned actor with credits across Canadian and American productions, brings a different energy to the role. Filming for Season 4 is already underway in Toronto, and the 10-episode run is expected to air later this year.

The casting change reflects the show's maturity. A three-season run is solid for a spinoff, and the appetite for Toronto-set crime stories remains strong—this city has become a genuine production hub, and having a show that's locally made and set here matters to the industry. Kirby's casting signals that the producers aren't trying to duplicate Young's dynamic; they're evolving it. That's the move that keeps a procedural from feeling stale.
