Toronto police arrested a 43-year-old man after an alleged hate-motivated assault Tuesday at Danforth and Logan avenues.

Christopher Lawson, a Toronto resident, was charged with offence motivated by hatred, assault with a weapon, and breach of probation. Police say the victim was working in the area when Lawson approached and made anti-immigrant and anti-South Asian remarks before assaulting the victim.

The victim called police; officers arrived while Lawson was still on scene and took him into custody. Lawson appeared in court Wednesday. The investigation is being led by Toronto Police Service Hate Crime Unit.

This is part of a pattern of hate-motivated incidents the city has seen this year. In July, a 58-year-old man was charged after an alleged hate-motivated assault near Jane and Lawrence. In June, a 41-year-old faced charges following a weapon assault spree on the Danforth that left multiple people injured.
