Toronto police are searching for a man in connection with a hate-motivated threatening investigation after an unprovoked assault near Brimley Road and Huntingwood Drive on Friday, June 25.
Around 4 p.m., the suspect allegedly drove past victims, parked, and directed anti-Black slurs and threats toward them. He then returned to his vehicle, removed a baseball bat from the trunk, and swung it at the victims. The suspect and victims are not known to each other.
Police described the suspect as approximately five-foot-10, between 30 and 40 years old, with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a red Cincinnati Reds hat, white t-shirt, light-blue jeans, white shoes, and a blue-and-white batting glove. He was driving an older, four-door silver Honda Civic.
Investigators are treating the incident as a suspected hate-motivated offence. If charged and convicted, hate could be considered an aggravating factor during sentencing.
