Police seek bike-riding suspect in three Markham sexual assaults over one week

York Regional Police are searching for a suspect involved in three separate sexual assaults in Markham over the course of a single week, all on the same stretch of Edward Jeffreys Avenue between Markham Road and Roy Rainey Avenue.

All three incidents occurred between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. In the first, on Monday, August 10, at around 6:40 p.m., a female was walking near Edward Jeffreys Avenue and Mingay Avenue when an unknown suspect approached on a bicycle. "As the suspect passed the victim on the sidewalk, he touched her for a sexual purpose and then fled the area," police said.

Two similar incidents allegedly involving the same suspect occurred on Friday, August 14, and Monday, August 17, at other locations along the same stretch.

Police describe the suspect as male with a medium complexion and straight, medium-length black hair, approximately 18 years old. He was riding a black bicycle that appeared too small for him.

Investigators allege all three incidents involved the same suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact York Regional Police. Police noted this follows a pattern of assaults on trails in the wider region — in July, a Richmond Hill man was charged after two youth sexual assaults on trails days apart.
