Mike Myers is celebrating a Der Spiegel cover this week that puts Prime Minister Mark Carney in a Team Canada hockey jersey. He shared an image of the cover on Instagram.
The cover calls Carney "der besser Amerikaner," or "the better American," who "gives hope to the free world." It shows him hoisting a Canadian flag on a hockey stick, and the flag partly covers the face of US President Donald Trump, who stands behind him.
Myers, an SNL alum, has been open about his support for Carney. He appeared in one of Carney's elbows up ad campaigns last year and wore a "Canada Is Not for Sale" T-shirt on SNL. In August, he shared an AI-generated image of Carney as a superhero, as the US escalated its trade war.
The admiration appears mutual. Earlier this month, Carney posted a photo of a figurine of British general Sir Isaac Brock that Myers gave him. It sits on the prime minister's desk. Brock was killed securing a historic victory over the US in the War of 1812.
Der Spiegel has a history of provocative covers. A 2017 cover showed Trump holding the bloody severed head of the Statue of Liberty. HOC covered Myers accepting a Canadian Screen Icon Award in June.
