Mississauga mayoral candidate Bonnie Crombie is pledging a western extension of TTC Line 2 from Kipling Station through Sherway Gardens into the heart of Mississauga as a top priority if elected October 26.
Crombie has committed to convening meetings with the province, Metrolinx, the City of Toronto, and the TTC within her first 100 days if elected. She also plans to seek federal participation in the planning process and bring a motion before council within the first 100 days to formally launch Mississauga's participation in a joint business case study.
The study would examine potential routes and station locations, with options serving Sherway Gardens and Mississauga City Centre. It would also assess connections to the Hazel McCallion Line, GO Transit, MiWay, and the Mississauga Transitway, alongside projections for ridership, travel-time savings, accessibility, and housing and employment growth opportunities near stations.
The business case would also examine construction and operating costs, environmental impacts, and requirements for integrating the extension with TTC's existing Line 2 network. Crombie's goal is to have a jointly funded study underway within her first year and an initial business case completed within two years. The proposal includes evaluating elevated sections along parts of the route, comparing elevated construction, tunnelling, and hybrid options.
Crombie is also prioritizing better bus service, completion of the Hazel McCallion Line, and all-day, two-way GO Transit service on the Milton line. The plan calls for regular public reporting on project progress, including updates on spending, funding commitments, and major decisions.
