Ontario's Minister of Sport Neil Lumsden has announced he will retire from cabinet and the legislature effective August 4.

Premier Doug Ford praised Lumsden's service in a statement Friday. "Neil has been a dedicated public servant with a storied career during his time in the CFL, as a minister and as the MPP for Hamilton East-Stoney Creek," Ford said. "In particular, I want to thank Neil for his work supporting Toronto's successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup."

Lumsden, who has represented Hamilton East-Stoney Creek since 2022, played a key role in Ontario's preparations for the 2026 men's World Cup tournament, which will see Toronto host six matches next summer.
