A funeral service was held today for Const. Marc Pinizzotto, the 43-year-old Toronto police officer fatally shot on June 11 during a search warrant at an apartment building in the city's northwest.

A procession began at 10 a.m., followed by the service at the Toronto Congress Centre at 1 p.m. Family members, police officers, and officials attended; the service was closed to the public but broadcast live online.

Pinizzotto was killed while executing a search as part of an investigation into multiple shootings. The man accused of shooting him, 19-year-old Nicholas Bennett, was shot and injured by police and remains hospitalized. Bennett has been charged with first-degree murder and offences related to two other shootings, with a court appearance scheduled for next month.
