Funeral for slain Toronto police officer Marc Pinizzotto set for June 24

The funeral for Toronto police Const. Marc Pinizzotto will be held Wednesday, June 24 at 1 p.m. in Etobicoke, according to Toronto police.
The procession will run from Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home to the Toronto Congress Centre. Members of the public are invited to observe the procession, but the funeral itself will be limited to family, police services, and emergency service personnel. Further details about the procession route will be provided later.
Pinizzotto, 43, died June 12 after being shot during a search warrant execution at a fourth-floor apartment near Tretheway Drive and Black Creek Drive around 5:40 a.m. He had served 18 years on the force and is survived by his wife and two children.
The shooting was connected to an investigation into multiple incidents, including several targeting Toronto-area synagogues and one at the U.S. Consulate in March.
Nicholas Bennett, 19, of Toronto is in custody in hospital and will be charged with first-degree murder. The Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting and officer's death.
Hours after his death, hundreds of officers gathered at Sunnybrook hospital as a procession carried Pinizzotto's body to the chief coroner's office. Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw called him a "hero in life, not death."
Pinizzotto's mother, Linda, posted a tribute to her son on social media, describing him as "an incredible father, son, husband, coach and friend of many." She wrote that her family is devastated but grateful for the outpouring of condolences received.
