Ontario Premier Ford reshuffles cabinet to address Trump's escalating tariffs on Canada

Ontario's cabinet has been reshuffled Thursday, September 10 to put the province in a stronger position to protect workers, businesses and communities as President Trump continues to escalate his trade war with Canada, according to Premier Doug Ford.

Ford, who is also Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, announced the changes in Toronto. The cabinet includes Vic Fedeli as Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade — a key portfolio as trade tensions mount — alongside ministers overseeing agriculture, energy, infrastructure, and natural resources, all sectors vulnerable to American tariffs.

Key appointments include Sam Oosterhoff as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness; Stephen Lecce as Minister of Energy and Mines; David Piccini as Minister of Infrastructure; and Greg Rickford as Minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation and the Minister Responsible for Ring of Fire Economic and Community Partnerships.

The reshuffled cabinet also includes newly appointed Associate Minister Vijay Thanigasalam, focused on Artificial Intelligence Adoption within the Economic Development ministry, alongside other associate ministers assigned to specific sectors including energy-intensive industries, forestry, and mental health.

This marks another significant restructuring for the Ford government, which has faced escalating tariff threats and trade uncertainty affecting Ontario's manufacturing, agriculture, and resource sectors. The cabinet reorganization signals a focus on economic resilience during the ongoing trade dispute.
