Toronto Public Health issued a warning Friday after an increased number of overdoses were reported in the downtown area.

Public health officials said a clear substance resembling glass is circulating among the unregulated drug supply, though they could not identify the specific drugs involved. The alert did not specify how many overdoses occurred or whether there were any fatalities.

"Toronto Public Health is issuing an alert to remind the public to be safe when using substances," the alert stated around 5 p.m. Friday. "Toronto Public Health will continue to monitor the situation and provide an update if necessary."

If you use drugs, the health unit recommends doing so with someone you trust and ensuring you have a naloxone kit available, which can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose.
