Toronto Pearson Airport is warning passengers about artificial-intelligence-generated articles spreading false and misleading information about flight operations.

Sean Davidson, Pearson's spokesperson, said the problem has ramped up significantly in recent months. Fake headlines from travel websites have claimed things like "I.T. Outage Triggers Major Flight Chaos Across Canada" — stories designed to alarm passengers who may be flying soon.

"Some 'authors' on these websites are writing up to 100 articles a day, so it's clearly done by AI," Davidson said. "We're concerned because we don't want passengers to show up unnecessarily or cancel flights based on false information."

Pearson has repeatedly tried to contact the websites to have the inaccurate content removed without success. The airport shared a list of problematic sites: TheTraveler.org, Toronto Digest, Travel and Tour World, NomadLawyer, and Travel Tourister.

Cybersecurity experts say the sites generate revenue through advertising clicks and may collect user data for malicious purposes, including data breaches and ransomware attacks. The best defence is to check official sources directly — your airline's website or social media, or Pearson's official channels.
