Police link 2022 Scarborough murder suspect to attempted shooting months later
Investigators say the man they call 'Jay' killed Ding Ping Wang in November 2022 and may have been involved in an attempted murder near the same location four months later.

Toronto police believe the suspect in the November 2022 murder of 31-year-old Ding Ping Wang goes by the name "Jay," and may be connected to another shooting in the same Scarborough area months later.
Wang was shot and killed while sitting in a vehicle near Midland and Passmore avenues on November 12, 2022. In late July, police released security footage showing the suspect travelling the same route on November 11, 2022 — the day before the killing — suggesting he was conducting reconnaissance of the area.
New security footage now appears to show the same suspect in connection with an attempted murder near Midland and Passmore on March 10, 2023, about four months after Wang's death. Police believe the suspect had access to a black four-door SUV at the time. Investigators have not disclosed what connection, if any, exists between the victims in the two cases.
Police are asking anyone who recognizes "Jay" or has information about either incident to contact them at 416-808-7400. An artist's rendering of the suspect based on an eyewitness account was released in July.
